Back Yard Brawl Week

Last Night it was Duke and Carolina in the battle of the blue. North Carolina has surely made Roy Williams Smile in the growth of the team since Thanksgiving. What looked like a 30 point blowout for Duke a month ago looked like a 30 point Carolina blowout at the half.

It is my honest opinion that unless Irving comes back for Duke I doubt they make the sweet 16. If Carolina continues to improve they could become very interesting for them in the NCAA tournament. The one thing Carolina is is long under the basketball and can cause all kinds of problems for any team that their best part of their team is the inside game. Why Carolina forgot about their big men in the second half is a mystery to me.

Tonight Faith Christian made the long trek, what mile and a half to Rocky Mount Academy for their version of the back yard brawl and like last night the home team got the long end of the stick.

The girls game RMA was lead by Rebekah Brown who score 14 to lead the lady Eagles to a 38-30 victory over Faith Christian. Ashley Weeks lead the Patriots with 10.

Michael Barnhill lead RMA and Gerrick Oxendine scored the most for Faith but RMA pulled out 57-45 victory.

As I was driving up tonight you could hardly find a parking spot as cars were parked everywhere. Once I got inside I found out that tonight RMA held a fund raiser spaghetti dinner for Colt Brake. The high light of the evening was that Colt was in attendance . He is home now taking Physical therapy at Wake Med. When his physical condition improves even more he will return to The Atlanta facility which has helped him greatly since his spinal injury.

Friday night Rocky Mount girls collide with Northern Nash for the Big East conference regular season title. Rocky mount can go undefeated in conference play with a victory. Northern can get a tie for the title if they win but Rocky Mount would get the #1 seed in the Big East tournament next week having beaten Northern during the Christmas tournament. Both teams have a bye on Tuesday and both will play the semi's Thursday at the Rocky Mount Gym.

The boys will claw it out for second place and what they are really playing for is a bye in Monday night's opening round of the Big East tournament. The winner will be seeded second and not have to play to Wednesday while the loser will be seeded third and play Fike Monday. I suspect a full house early at Rocky Mount.
