Something Did Go On Thursday besides Carolina

Thursday night the Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation crowned their softball Co-Rec champs as Southside Baptist Church beat Twin County Motor Sports to take the tournament crown and went through the tournament with out a loss.  If you don't know what Co-Rec it's the mixed league ladies and gentleman.

Both sides played good enough defense and neither side hit the ball early and it took the fourth inning before Southside could  put together a four run inning high lighted by a two rbi at bat by the oldest player on the field 57 year old Danny Reams.  Danny pitches for Southside but his first time at bat pull a hamstring running to first.  He struggled running the bases for the rest of the game but still got three hits and drove in two more runs in the sixth inning.  Twin County Motor sports finally cracked the score board in the bottom of the sixth with three runs but by the seventh inning they still needed three more to force a second game Thursday night..  Southside Baptist takes the title 6-3 over Twin County Motor Sports.

Across the State in Hickory the Rocky Mount National League Midget (9/10) All Stars  opened play in the Tar Heel Little League Tournament and find out that the field they will play on is a larger than regulation field than the 200 foot fence of a normal Tar Heel Little league games.  So what do they do?   The lead off batter knocks the first pitch of the game off the 250 foot wall and RM coast to a 15-3 four inning  victory over Caldwell County.  Not much time to celebrate for Johnny Ramsey's squad as they will be in the winner's bracket game at 10.00am this morning against host Hickory.

The National League Senior Little league (11/12) opened up their play in the State Tar Heel Tournament also in Hickory by playing the host team in the opener.  I don't have a score but was told that they did beat Hickory last night and they also play in a winners bracket game at 10.00am.

I know this really is of no interest to many of you but the Greenville Little League team is undefeated in the Williamsport North Carolina  State title and plays tonight and will have to lose twice in order not to make it to the Southeast Regional. The State tournament is being played in Cherryville about 30 miles where Rocky Mount two teams are playing in Hickory. Should they make it to the Regional Final ESPN carries that on TV where the winner gets invited to Williamsport Pennsylvania.
