East Regional Track Saturday

Nash Central will be alive Saturday as the East Regional Track and Field Championships will be held there.  Nash Central, Rocky Mount are the favorites.  Nash Central dominates the long distance running while Rocky Mount's strength is sprints and jumping.  The Rocky Mount girls should place high in the girls competition.  The event starts at 11.00am but it will take till dark to complete.

This crazy Easter schedule that we have had this year the girls soccer coaches decide to cancel the conference tournament.  This will hurt all Big East teams that have made the playoffs.  It is just another week added to not playing games so headed into the playoffs they will all be rusty.

Glover Park  in Nashville will be the site starting Monday of the Big East girls softball Tournament.  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are the scheduled dates.  Nash Central is the host school this year.  Glover Park is a really central site  for all six conference teams and a great place to hold it.

Nash Central plays Fike today in baseball.  Rocky Mount is at Hunt Saturday at 3.00pm.  Hunt beat Fike last night to win the Big East regular season title.  It will be interesting to see now that they are champions how they will pitch Rocky Mount on Saturday.  The #1 seed in the bag their goal now is focusing on their pitching for next Thursday's opening round playoffs.  It becomes how important is an undefeated regular season mean to them.  Rocky Mount sure would love to see a JV pitcher since they still need one more win to secure second place.

How about those Gryphon Golfers.  They head Sunday to Pinehurst and for the first time ever Gryphon golf team will be in the state golf championships that start Monday.

After all the criticism leveled at Debbie Yow and her remarks concerning Gary Williams he  up and retires at Maryland yesterday.    Maybe Yow was right in calling Williams out on Maryland's low graduation rate and pretty much called Williams a slacker since he had won the National championship.  College basketball coaches don't quit or retire this time of year unless there are health issues or maybe behind closed doors the Maryland high command agreed with Yow.
