Gryphons Back On Winning Ways

Just two minutes into tonight's game with the Cougars of SouthWest Edgecombe and trailing 3-2. Mike Gainey inserted the second unit into the game and in a matter of just a few seconds the Gryphons had complete control of tonight's affair. Mike Gainey Jr. (MJ) hit two straight three point buckets and the Cougars would never see the lead again. MJ has his career high by the half (12) at that point. Tecoby Hines playing with the second unit lead all scorers with 16 and 10 rebound in limited action. All fourteen players who suited up had multiple minutes by half time. Twelve players score in the game. Twelve different players had rebounds.

Hines scored 16, followed by MJ with 14. Rocky Mount out rebounded the Cougars 42-24. The turnover battle was even so to speak 24-23 Cougars with the edge. The next action for the Gryphons is home Friday night hosting South Central a team they went overtime with last week in Winterville.

Final score Gryphons 68- SWE 53 but the score is no where near the total domination by the Gryphons. The Gryphons find themselves 6-2 heading into Friday night's game.

Football has a rule that once a team gets a 40 point lead they let the clock run continuously and tonight's girl's game there was a need once the lead hit forty to run the clock. I have seen Sandra Langley's girls teams play all the way back when Ahoskie and SouthWest use to tangle and this is about as short of a team as she has ever had. The Lady Gryphon guards were just as big as the biggest Cougar player.

Tonight the Lady Gryphons make the Cougars clawless in dismantling the Cougars 85-27. Marquita Hines and Tia Hudgins lead the way with 18 each. Timisha Walker added 14, J'Kyra Brown 13 as the first team hardly broke a sweat.

The Lady Gryphons are now 7-1 and will face the only team to beat them at this point in the season in South Central who won by ten at their place last week.

Come early Friday night because I suspect the place will be packed.
