Blocked Field Goal- Hunt Remains Unbeaten

This weeks battle for the top spot in the Big East goes to the Hunt Warriors as they blocked Nash Central's winning field goal attempt with twenty seconds to go in the game  to hold on to a 23-21 victory and take sole  possession of first place in the Big East. The winning points come on a field goal made by Hunt in the first half after both teams scored two touchdowns  to give Hunt a 16-14 half time lead.  Hunt scored first in the fourth to jump out to the 23-14 lead  and held on for the victory.

Fike has set themselves up for a run at the title at they beat Northern Nash 21-14.  Northern Nash continues to play tough defense  but can't score enough to win a game.  Fike can throw a monkey wrench in the Big East if they were to beat Hunt next week. If Fike wins and Southern Nash beats Nash Central then Fike can take the top spot in the conference.  If Hunt wins they take the championship our right.  Should Nash Central beat Southern ,Fike Beat Hunt then a three way tie for first and the home field in the playoffs would come down to the tie breaker.

It is possible that Hunt should they lose next week and a three way tie occurred that with a 9-1 record have to go on the road in the opening round of the playoffs.  It is also possible that if Hunt wins and Southern beats Nash Central then Hunt would win the league by two games.  A lot is at stake next week.

The last game ever played at the Rocky Mount Athletic complex went about as expected in the end but Rocky Mount had the Firebirds of Southern squirming at half time.  The Gryphons had a touchdown and field goal to only a touchdown for Southern Nash and lead 9-6 at the half.  Southern wins the second half  28-0 in to win the last game ever at the RMAC  34-9 over Rocky Mount.

Next week Wilson County's schools play for the title while two of Nash County's team will look for their first win in conference play as Northern Nash host Rocky Mount.  Nash Central needs to beat Southern in order to be in the running for a home game in the opening round of the playoffs.

Tarboro keeps their home playoff game alive as they rout Farmville Central 52-3.

There is good news  for the Lee Winstead family in Nashville.  Lee came home from Pitt Memorial today after over a three week stay from brain swelling which occurred after he was hit by a thrown ball while  warming up for a little league game.  The Doctors at Pitt say this is the fastest recovery they have ever seen from this type severe  injury.
