Common Bond

Heard the news today that Don Pardo the voice of Saturday Night Live died on Monday.  I can remember sitting at home in the late 1950's watching the Price is Right with Bill Cullen and adding the original Jeopardy in the 60's to his voice aided shows.

Pardo  was a news reporter for NBC during World War Two and worked for NBC for seventy years.  The last Saturday Night live show taped in May Pardo  was behind the Mic and was prepared to once again be the voice of SNL when the new season started this fall.   He was 96 years old. Can you believe that.

Like Pardo many of my events that I have done over the years I am recognized by voice over what I look like.  This weekend while on our visit to Ahoskie  a person walked up to me and asked if I was who I was because they recognized my voice some 20 years having left the town.  My body may have changed over the years but I guess my voice is still the same.

Tonight the defending American Legion world champions have won the World Series again. Brooklawn New Jersey took advantage of  Midland Michigan's  15 walks which made the game look a lot of what we saw during the Cary 14-13 win over Rocky Mount during the opening round of the state Legion playoffs.  Woodlawn wins the most lopsided win in American Legion World Series history 18-0. The road to Shelby started when Rocky Mount hosted Cary on July 3rd and ended tonight  47 days later.

Carlos  Rodon's Rise to AAA bsseball just three months since pitching for NC State started tonight in Charlotte pitching for the Knights. Rodon threw 55 pitches struck out three and gave up an earn run in the third and left having the lead 2-1.  However Charlotte gave up six in the fourth.  The White Sox have taken it slow with Rodon limiting the number of pitches he has thrown per outing.  The number one draft pick for Houston has already had arm trouble and the Sox are trying their best to keep Carlos Rodon healthy.
