Northern Takes Christmas Present

Three quarters of the way in the Nash County Christmas Tournament and Northern Nash trailed practically the entire way. After trading baskets back and forth early on Nash Central lead by seven early in the forth quarter until a 14-0 spurt sent Northern Nash to a 68- 66 Victory over Nash Central.

The home standing Lady Bulldogs didn't take kindly to Rocky Mount wanting to win the Christmas tournament in their gym and dominated the second half in whipping the Lady Gryphons 52-40.

Christmas eve is here and what do you think the Gryphon boys will be doing a t 6.00am preparing for the Glaxo Smith Kline tournament at Broughton gym Friday night. Basketball Practice. Practice early and that way the afternoon of Christmas eve can be spent with family members.

The Gryphons play Word of God at 9.00pm Friday night at Broughton High school gym. Word of God features the #1 point guard in the nations in John Wall. C J Leslie who has already committed to N C State also can be seen during the 9.00pm headline game of the day at Broughton.

the Gryphon basketball program has been good over the years but the GSK likes to feature top North Carolina talent in the tournament and Tashawn Mabry is Rocky Mount's invitation into this tournament.

I told my brother in-law Greg Hodges over the weekend I didn't understand his New York Yankees. The best player available in the free agent market sitting out there and the Yankees not going after him Mark Teixeira. Well the Yankees got off the pot and signed Teixeira for 180 million over eight years. That's $138,000 per game over the next 1296 games whether he plays in everyone or not.

Teixeira is still not the highest paid Yankee. It is the 4th largest contact in Baseball history behind Alex Rodriquez having the highest two and then Derek Jeter. Despite having the highest payroll the Yankees have two starters than don't make a million a year. Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano. Former N C State Andrew Brackman who has yet to pitch at any level for the Yankees makes more than those two.

Sunday The Denver Bronco's play San Diego Chargers in San Diego. This would be one of the biggest come backs in NFL history if San Diego pulls this game out. They were three games down with three to play. San Diego is an eight and 1/2 point favorite mainly due to the fact that in December since Philip Rivers has been the quarter back of the San Diego Chargers San Diego is 13-0.

The NFL Monday night football schedule has been down graded they last couple of years since NBC has been given Sunday night football. Starting at week 11 they have waited to the last minute do decide who would be the Sunday night game they have called it the flex schedule.

Both Fox and CBS will have double headers Sunday and the NFL has been working on a flex schedule where all teams that are still in the playoff picture play at the same time so no team knows when the late game starts that they have already been knocked out from one of the early games.

I heard on ESPN Tuesday that there were 64 possible scenarios still possible of who could make the NFC playoffs. The AFC is pretty cut and dry except the the western division.

I am off to a very impressive 3-3 start in the Bowl picks. Not yet time to worry about winning percentage since there are still 100 bowl games to play. At least it seems like it.
