Got an e-mail today from Joe Bell informing me the third round of the American Legion playoffs start Sunday instead of Monday. Still waiting on an opponent, but chances look good we will be home Sunday night at 7.
Thursday night Kinston has defeated Wilson 3-2 and Game 5 will be on Friday in Kinston. As far as we know now, the winner will come to Northern Nash Sunday at 7 p.m.
Should Post 58 advance to round four that series starts Saturday, July 18 and at this point I have no idea who would get home field. Durham and Cary will start Sunday night in the west bracket and that winner will play who ever comes out of our bracket.
The Legion playoffs are feeling like the NBA. Three months of playoffs. Post 58 played 10 regular season games and have swept two series so far which is six games with at least two series more to go until the State Championship.
I met with new coach Dickie Schock today and we had about an hour skull session. The good news for Gryphon fans is that the core of last year's staff will be returning with a new face or two.
I know there has been a lot of apprehension from all helpers of Gryphon football that Schock would clean house and bring in his own. That's not going to happen and Schock hopes everyone returns including the Capps Brothers on the camera crew.
Coach Schock is hoping Gryphon football looks exactly like last year except for the head man(coach Holt and Chris Lee's replacement).
There was a girls team basketball camp going on in the gym when I stopped by. When I asked Mike Gainey whether I was doing JV football PA this year, Mike's reply was that he expected everyone back to what ever they did last year.
Schock met with the football team for the first time Tuesday night. Jason Battle and others have been leading the summer conditioning program.
Yes, Gryphon football has been without a head coach for almost six weeks, but the players and coaches continue to give their effort waiting for Schock's arrival.
The Dickie Schock era has started in Gryphon Land.
