H S Football Gearing For Conference

The first week for the Eastern Plains in conference play sees SouthWest Edgecombe fall at Kinston. You know SWE pulled the Hunt game out of the hat a couple of weeks ago and a failed two point conversion was missed by the Cougars. You only get so many chances when you are pulling numbers out of the hat and SWE number did not come up at Kinston losing by Two.

It is amazing to me that it was not that long ago that Jeff Craddock was on the hot seat in Tarboro. A easy win over North Pitt and Tarboro is ready to make an effort for a third straight trip to the State Championship game. Don't care how hot you are three times in a row will be difficult to do.

Northern Nash is back. The last couple of years the Knights have been in every game 7-6 types but their offense could not get a score when they needed it late in games. The Knights have an offense this year to go along with their solid defense. If I had to make a mid season pick right now I think the Knights are the best in the Big East.

Nash Central much like what happened to Rocky Mount at SWE had a two minute stretch that the game fell a part. A close game became a blow out. This week the Bulldogs play Southern Nash in a non-conference game. These two conference foes meet again the last game of the season. I like playing your arch rivals twice in a season but not at mid season. This game should be the Endowment game the first game of the season. Then by the last game it is such a long time since the opening game of the season that it seems you last played them last year.

Rocky Mount had the weekend off. They are at Greenville Rose this Friday before they hit the conference trail at Nash Central in two weeks. If they lose at Rose which is likely it will be hard having a winning season this year with all the good teams ahead in conference play. The one hope for Rocky Mount in conference play is you can see them getting better. Winning three conference games to make the playoffs will be tough.

Made a twenty four hour trip to New York City on Saturday. Stopped by TGIF in Times Square about 3.00pm Saturday and all the tv's in the place only had one game on, N C State-Georgia Tech. we will know more after this Saturday when Virginia Tech comes to Raleigh.
