Fike opened the opening game taking a 4-1 lead when Tamisha Walker started serving and before Fike got the serve back Walker and the Lady Gryphons won 14 straight points on their way to the opening game victory.
There is an old saying in baseball about certain pitchers that they throw a heavy ball and when batters make contact it's like a lead weight hitting your bat. Walker has a heavy serve and when she is on as today the other
Fike scored only five points in game three and three of those points came on Gryphons serves that were not in play. All Gryphon servers hit their serves deep and Fike had few chances at the net and when they did Walker, Tia Hudgins, Casey Cooke, Kushunn Seabreeze, Evie Hunter and Lauren Campbell were there to defend the net.
The Lady Gryphons are now 9-2 and 3-0 in Big East play and they hit the road Wednesday to see whether they have improved as the season unfolds. They take on D H Conley one of those Greenville area schools that are always tall and quick.
Boys soccer beat Bunn on Monday 7-1. Wednesday they travels to Oxford Webb and Thursday not quite as far but
Tennis pitched a shutout Monday downing Edenton's Holmes high 9-0. Girls tennis is 1-1 in conference play having played Fike today and Southern Nash on Thursday. Sorry I don't know how today came out as of yet.
I want to make you aware of an event that is is the planning stages. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The home volleyball game between Northern Nash and Rocky Mount on October 7th will be a fundraiser night for the Susan G Komen Fund for Breast Cancer Foundation. Last season the volleyball
One dollar from every ticket sold that night will go to the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. There will be several fundraisers at the event including bake goods on sale.
Let's make Coach Gainey pull all of the seats of the gym out for this event on October 7th.
