Big East Soccer has three In Third Round

Rocky Mount, Hunt and Fike all won Saturday and advance into the third round of the 3-A soccer playoffs. Hunt and Fike will play will play each other Wednesday which will give the Big East one team in the Eastern Finals again this year.

Jacksonville is considered the Eastern North Carolina giant in soccer and all people who think they can win the East must travel through Jacksonville to get there. This year Jacksonville must come through Rocky Mount to repeat as Eastern Champs.

Rocky Mount and Jacksonville collide at the Sports Complex Wednesday night. This just might be the best Rocky Mount team ever but in order to make it to the East Finals next Saturday there is a bird called a Cardinal standing in the way. Jacksonville has won 23 times and twice tied and one of those ties was with Rocky Mount on a neutral field.

How good is the programming for the Stretchlon Sports Show? Tonight at 8.00pm you can see that game with Rocky Mount and Jacksonville tonight which was taped back in August.

Been trying to find some good out of this POD system in which the NCHSAA is employing for the up coming football playoffs. Currituck is playing at Havelock. South Central and West Brunswick are playing and Nash Central has a 100 mile trip to make to Morehead City to play West Carteret.

I think they could have done just as good drawing all games out of the hat and had closer games than what the POD system is producing. I don't see much difference than the old way.

You know sometimes when you try to fix a problem you create 20 new problems and I sure don't see the POD system has fixed anything.

Hunt as the Big East #1 looks as if they have a good bracket as they will open with D H Conley.
Northern Nash thinks they are playing basketball and will now start their second time around with conference games and will play Southern Nash. Nash Central reward for third place in the Big East is a trip to Morehead City. Lets see Southern to Northern is what 15 miles . Nash Central to West Brunswick is 100. Sounds like the same POD to me.

Tarboro gets a home game in round one but Roanoke Rapids looms in round two.. They played a 42-35 game in the early season. SouthWest Edgecombe travels to conference foe Beddingfield. I can say this for the NCHSAA, they tried to mess every POD up instead of just one. That way they were fair to all.

Sure seems to me if you have a POD then all four of our teams would take on another conferences four teams. Out #1 plays their #4. Our #2 plays their #3. Our #3 Traavels to their #2 and our #4 travel to their #1. Let the winners have at it in round two.

Hope RM administration can get the football program back to where it was the last few years. Unfortunate how fast the program dropped in interest, enthusiasm and results in such a short time. If football is the big money generator for high school athletics then RM surely suffered based on only 4 home games and lack of success.

Enjoyed reading. Can't wait to see some high school playoff games. Hopefully Tarboro will go all the way. Maybe Southwest Edgecombe will also.
