Baseball Almost Halfway

Two full weeks of the Big East baseball season is over and Hunt remains the only undefeated team after handling Nash Central last night.   Northern Nash after their heart breaking loss on Wednesday night to the Bulldogs came back  and took care of business against Fike.  Rocky Mount disposed of Southern Nash.

Hunt is 4-0-Rocky Mount 3-1-Northern Nash 2-2-Nash Central 1-2 -Fike 1-2- and Southern Nash 0-4.  Remember that only three teams make the playoffs this year from the Big East.

Early in the season when coach Kent Cox  had Benton Moss on a pitch count and those early afternoon games before you could get to the game to see it there was confusion on who had pitched enough innings each game to qualify as the winner.  That being said Charles Alston has had a chance to review the score books and Benton Moss is back to 27 wins.

Like to say congratulations to Nick Phillips the former Gryphon who has as a junior  risen at UNC Pembroke to  the management level at the school newspaper. The last that I heard he was sports editor.  Nick won 3rd place in this years North Carolina College Media Association awards.  Keep up the good work Nick.

The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Atlanta tonight and a victory they will tie for eighth spot in the eastern division of the NHL playoffs.  If they win they are tied with the New York Rangers.  Both Carolina and the Rangers finish up their regular season Saturday and for one the season is over.
