Yankees Claim Little League Title.

The Championship was on the line Tuesday night as the  Wesley Mens Bible Class Yankees beat the Hester, Moore and Tucker attorneys Phillies 9-4 to claim the City recreation Little league Tournament crown.  The Phillies, this was their second loss in the tournament as they came through the losers bracket  only to lose to the undefeated tournament team Yankees who only played four games never losing in the tournament.

Noah Shrock lead the Yankees with two home runs a solo shot in the first to give the Yankees the lead and then a three run blast that  spurted the Yankees to a 9-2 lead in the 6th inning.  Terrell Porter had a two run homer for the Phillies which cut the lead to 4-2 in the second inning and then Cameron Vick had a two run shot in the bottom of the 6th to give the Phillies their final two runs.

The Yankees were the American League regular season Champs and the Phillies finished second to them in the American but the Phillies knocked over the top seed from the National League the Athletics  to make it to the championship game.

The Senior Little League  Tar Heel all stars players were announced at the end of the game.  Rocky Mount will send an American and National League All Star teams to Knightdale in July for the district tournament.  If either wins the district   the State tournament is back in Hickory this year after all levels of the Tar Heel associations championships were played in Rocky Mount last year.  That was the first time ever that every level of the Tar Heel State titles had ever been all in the same location the same weekend.

The Stretchlon Rookies of the year were announced and Richard Sarmiento awarded the trophies to the best 11 year old player in the 11/12 year old league.  Garrett Killebrew won from the National League and David Harrison won from the American.

Tonight first place will be on the line as Post 58 travels to Fleming Stadium where two area teams with 3-0 marks square off .  Wilson has top Edenton three times so far this season and Rocky Mount has banished Ahoskie three times.  Wilson and Rocky Mount meet twice more during the regular season.  Tonight's first pitch is 7.00pm at Fleming.
