Now here is where it gets complicated. This is a two out of three series with Wayne County and this series must be completed by Sunday night. If we are rained out every night until Monday then Post 58 advances to the next round because we are the higher seeded team. Now wouldn't that be something to advance because of weather after New Bern Forfeited the first round to us.
I can tell you right now that if not another drop of rain falls at Nash Central between now and game time Friday that field will still be suspect to play on. Britt Johnson and his group of volunteer helpers did a fantastic job getting the field ready to play by 7.30 tonight which was a little past game time but considering the way the field was today it was really good playing three innings there tonight.
Since Nash Central may not be ready Friday afternoon Hank Jones and Joe Bell will be looking Tonight and Friday to secure North Carolina Wesleyan or Rocky Mount High School to play Friday just in case. You may ask the question why did you say be ready to play Friday afternoon and the reason is that if Wesleyan winds up being the field they have no lights so the game is going to be played at 4.00pm Friday afternoon where ever they can secure a playable field.
Now here is a real odd fact. Mount Olive College where Wayne County plays their home games has had only two tenths of an inch of rain in the last 60 days. Mount Olive's grass is scorched not to mention the crops in the area, Every where all around Mt Olive has gotten rain but not Mt Olive. We are flooding and they are in a fire hazard area.
Did you realize that the 1973 Post 58 State championship team had a similar situation happen to them on their way to the State Title. They played Snow Hill in round two and won the opening game, lost game two and as of July 8th 2011 game three was never played because of rain outs and as the winner of game one Rocky Mount advance all the way to the State Championship and on to the Southeast Regional before they lost.
Game one is the tie breaker game and the winner advances if it ends dead locked and neither team is able to win two games before Sunday. You can best bet better believe that Post 58 doesn't want to give up any home field advantage they might have just because winning game one is so important.
Just for your information the game was tied 1-1 with two outs in the top of the third Jeremy Sloop had yielded a home run in the second inning and Kyle Pratt has an Rbi single for Post 58 in the bottom of the second. If we play Friday we start all over in the top of the first the only records that are official are the pitching records all at bats are as if they never happened.
It was raining when we all left the field but I would suspect that Jeremy Sloop will not pitch for Post 58 Friday and Collin Debose will not be used by Post 11 on the mound again. This brings up all kinds of situations about who to pitch in what will now be game one if weather permits.
Check back with me starting any time you want Friday as soon as Joe Bell gives me the word where the game is I will pass it along to you. You can also go on Facebook at Coleman Pitt 58 and Joe will announce it there too.
I know 4.00pm is not a good time for most as they will not be off work yet but they need all the help whenever this game is played. I can tell you these two teams are really close together and there is very little difference in who is better. The way the forecast is looking Friday and Saturday it does not look good so this opening game when ever it is, is very much vital to win.
The good news tonight is at least our starting line up got to hit at least once before the rains came so they saw some live pitching for the first time in 11 days. They got a chance to brush off the rust tonight.
