Do Or Die Time For Post 58

There is nothing better than to get a lead off Double and Spires Miller doubled was sent to third on a sac bunt by Chase Johnson and a ground out rbi gave Post 58 a 1-0 first inning lead. Cam Webb was given the ball by Post 58 coach Hank Jones and Wayne County tied the score in the first inning on two hits.

CP 58 exploded for three runs in the second as Jordan Taylor singled got to third on a double by Tyler Wooten and a single by Kyle Pratt gave CP 58 a 2-1 lead.  Jeremy Sloop got an rbi on an attempted Double play by Wayne County with  Wooten scoring and Kakil Macklin scored on another ground out  by Spires Miller. The bottom of the second WC stranded a runner at third  to give CP 58 a 4-1 lead after two.

All you can ask of any pitcher is give me all you got and in Rocky Mount's case Hank Jones got that from Cam Webb as Webb made quick work of WC  in third, fourth, Fifth.  The sixth Kevin Wise lead off with a triple on scored on a wild pitch to cut CP 58's lead to 4-2 after six.  Webb has held WC to five hits while CP 58 has collected 6 in six innings.

The Bottom of the seventh started with an error and Tyler Farmer doubled and Hank Jones with hook in hand pulled Cam Webb bringing in Matthew Berry.  He did about as good as you can ask from a reliever getting a ground out which scored the run from third and two more outs to keep CP 58 in the lead at 4-3 through seven.

Heading into the eighth CP 58 has been without a hit going on four innings and nothing happened in the eighth. Run #3 for WC was unearned in the  7th and WC will get another unearned run in the eighth to tie the game and heading down the stretch 4-4 with CP 58 hanging on.

One out in the ninth Khalil Macklin is hit by a pitch.  The Freshman from Nash Central could be the winning run but the CP 58 bats have gone silent in the last few inning and Hank Jones lets Macklin get to second on a steal.  Tyler   Pratt beats out an infield hit sending Macklin to third.  Jeremy Sloop trying to bunt but not squeezing misses a bunt attempt and the ball gets by the catcher and Macklin score from third to give CP 58 the lead in the ninth 5-4.

The past two seasons when Post 58 has made it to the State Legion Tournament they made a habit of winning the close games.  Tonight they would not hold the lead in the ninth as WC scores twice and never gets a hit to end Post 58 dream of three straight trips to the State Tournament  6-5 Wayne County.

Post 58 ends the season 17-7.  It is my opinion that Wayne County will win the next round against either greenville or Kinston.  CP 58 lost to a very good team.
