Ten years ago today all Americans were glued to a TV if they could get near one and watched war as it raged right in the heartland of America and right in front of our eyes. War had come to America. We sat astonished, amazed that such a tall structure could tumble, and most of all we were all mad. Then another symbol of our freedom the Pentagon had been hit.
Oddly enough I have never been up in the Twin Towers or the Pentagon so to speak. I walked in the lobby of the South Tower once and chose not to go to the viewing tower because of time. I have been on the Subway in Washington and one of the stops was the Pentagon. When you look at the Subway stop and the sign says Pentagon it sent chills over my body.
Our lives have changed since that day ten years ago. We go through a metal detector just to go to a high school game. That may not come directly from 9/11 but it tells of a society where there is no discipline. You have to go early to an airport to make sure you can get on your flight on time. That is a small price to pay when there are those willing to kill you just because they don’t like what America stands for.
We hear all the time about people who are upset at the way they are treated while trying to get on a plane. I don’t understand those that are upset. They would be suing if their plane got bombed and they survived. We live in luxury, even today’s Americans who are labeled as being people of poverty live better than middle class Americans did fifty years ago.
We as Americans have to realize that we are lucky people to be able to live this way. We should thank God every day for what he has given us and we should want to do everything we can to keep it. If it means going through a metal detector or being frisked at an airport we must endure to keep our freedom.
Endure you bet we need to. We cannot let those who hate us make us want to hide in our living room in order to stay safe. If you can afford it you should be able to move freely where ever you want to as long as you don’t violate someone else’s rights.
Whenever there is a Natural Disaster like flooding from Hurricane
Ten years have passed and most have forgotten the words of God Bless America. We are worried about the government stopping the monthly checks that they give to me. We have over spent in all this luxury at home and watched the government become a give-a-way plan.
Today of all days is a day to tighten our belts and go to a memorial service, get out in the public and show those who hate us that they can never defeat us. We are in similar circumstances as England was when Hitler bombed them in 1940. We must join together and fight for our freedom. Sometimes fighting just is a simple walking down the street. America’s Main street will do today.
