What To Make Of This High School Football Season

So far this 2011 high school football season has been about as clear as the weather.  Rocky Mount opens the season with a 30-0 shutout of Bunn but most in the conference snickered because last year Rocky Mount won only three times and what have they done to improve.

Southern Nash has opened the season scoring 99 points and look like world beaters.  Along comes a hurricane and the Firebirds prove tonight that they just can't show up and beat just anybody.  The Firebirds fumble four times in the first half and trailed 14-0 to Bunn at Southern. Southern manages to hold on to the ball in the second half and sweaks out a 21-17 win over Bunn.

Hunt has started the season 3-0 after they take SouthWest Edgecombe to the woodshed Friday night winning 28-8.  Just how good is Hunt as the three teams they have beaten  have a combined 1-7 overall record so far this season.

They have only played twice so  far this fall but the Cougars of SouthWest Edgecombe seems to have fallen off the top of the football world..  They are 0-2 and have score eight points and given up 71.  They have already lost more games this season than what they normally lose all year since Raymond Cobb has coached in Pinetops.

The door mat of the Big East last year Fike has been embarrassed by D H Conley and last week lost at Bunn. Friday night Fike beats cross town rival Beddingfield 26-21. This is the same Beddingfield team even though they lost they hung 28 points on Southern Nash and the week before that held Northern Nash to no touchdowns.

Tonight two more opportunities to add to the confusion.  Nash Central host Roanoke Rapids at the Dawg Pound.  RR is 2-0 on the season as well as the Dogs.  Rocky Mount travels to Hertford County where the forecast calls for no rain.  That is bad news for the Gryphons as they have not score a point all season when it wasn't raining but have put up 52 in downpours.  Just maybe this tropical storm will hit the area just about kickoff.
