Gas On The Fire

Long before the Purple colored Vikings of Tarboro High school boarded the bus to head to SouthWest Edgecombe for tonight's game the Viking faithful were up in arms over and event that happened last night to Tarboro High School.  First light this morning most of Tarboro High facing the football field was painted in SWE blue. A person or persons painted graffiti on the side of the building and even on the football field.

As of this moment I know of no one who has been arrested for this crime but you can best bet that everyone that pulls for the purple  thinks  somebody that pulls for the Cougars did it.  I hear Tarboro ask that SouthWest forfeit the game which if true would be finding guilt before the criminal.  Anytime there is graffiti then some of it is unprintable.  Whether it is youthful exuberance or who knows it could be a Viking person or persons with an axe to grind. Regardless there was a game tonight.

They may have been inexperienced the first several games but Tarboro found out that being mad because someone painted the school was not going to be enough in this one as SWE gave the Vikings all they wanted.  Tarboro had  the ball from SWE and was trying to run the clock out late leading 21-13 and just maybe because they are mad they attempt to pass the ball late in the game and the pass bounces off a Viking  and picked off by a Cougar  lineman who has to be chased down at the 15 yard line and with two minutes to go. The Cougars score and go for two to tie and complete a pass in the back corner of the end zone but oh no it is ruled out of bounds.  Tarboro survives 21-19.

The up and coming Golden Demons going up against the MASH unit that goes by the name of Rocky Mount the up and comers roll as Rocky Mount has no answer for the hottest team in the Big East. Rocky Mount loses their third conference game and now Fike is 2-1 and in the midst of the conference championship.  All of this from the team picked last.  Rocky Mount can't stop the Golden Demons 63-14.

The big game of the night saw Southern Nash and Hunt swat at each other with Hunt trying to stay unbeaten and the Firebirds trying not to be out of the running.  This is a classic you can't stop me and I can't stop you.  The last team to score is Hunt and they win 31-27.  The last score comes with 50 seconds to play.   Hunt is 8-0 and for Southern Nash they drop to 1-2 in the conference .

Northern Nash finally figures out how to score as they get defensive touchdowns  on a 86 yard interception return and a 79 yard fumble score  and lead 14-0 by the midway point in the first quarter, but that is still not enough as  Nash Central charges back to take a 35-14 lead.  Northern's offense finally scores late 35-21 final.

Hunt at 8-0 still has Nash Central and Fike to go.  Southern Nash pays a visit to the limping Gryphons next week in the last game ever for Gryphon football at the Athletic Complex.  Northern gets to see how good Fike has become.  That is all next week in Big East football.
