Another night of high school football has be put on hold as a weather cell past through the area just about on hour and a half before kickoffs and looking at the radar they should have passed by in just a few minutes. The cell slowed as it passed the I-95 Corridor and would not go away until all games in Rocky Mount were moved to Monday.
Southern Nash's game at Fike was put off to Monday as well as Northern Nash hosting Hunt. Rocky Mount will try to host Nash Central all three games will be Monday night at they will all start at 7.00. The only team in the area to play was Tarboro hosting Greene Central and the Vikings go to 2-0 in Eastern Plains football winning 28-7
There is going to be a little football game played in Greenville tonight as ECU will host the Tar Heels of North Carolina. Athletic Director Terry Holland has sent out a letter to the Pirate nation asking them to cheer hard for the Pirates but remember to be under control at all times. You might remember several fans were arrested the last time ECU beat Chapel Hill in Greenville when the fans stormed the field and several fights broke out on the field after the game with security personnel.
I don't know what to expect today in Raleigh as the Wolfpack plays host to Georgia Tech. I thought before the season started that the Pack would win at least eight games but with all the injuries to the defense they will be lucky if they don't lose eight.
Prayers need to head out today to the Lee Winstead family. Lee is an eleven year old little leaguer who Wednesday night was struck in the head by a wild pitch as the pitcher was warming up between innings. He was rushed to Pitt Hospital where the doctors there operated on his skull when the concussion put extension pressure on his brain. I understand that the first 48 hours were touch and go but Lee was showing signs on improvement Friday night. We surely hope so.
It sure does seem as if this area has had their share of sports injuries this past year including the two football players with Spinal Injuries and another baseball player being hit in the face with a line drive. It would not shock me at all if at least through high school all players had to wear a helmet like some softball players do that looks like a football helmet. Little league through high school including the pitchers will probably someday have to have a safety helmet on when ever they leave the dugout.
