Hahn Makes The Call
I still get chill bumps when I hear a replay of Wally Ausley's call of N C State's National Championship win in 1983 in basketball. "The glass Slipper fits, the Wolfpack has won the National Championship." Back then you could turn down the TV and listen to the radio and watch and listen in sinc. Today with radio and TV going into space into sateylites and then back to earth they are hard to watch TV and listen to the radio.
Ausley has been retired and now gone from this earth for 20 years and his replacement Gary Hahn has never has had that signature moment but it may have come this past Saturday. The clock hit zero and Hahn's words were "Final Score from Raleigh the Wolfpack 13 and North Carolina nothing the Wolfpack has torpedoed the Flagship". Sunday's papers just about everybody made reference to the flagship. Gary Hahn no longer the guy who replaced Ausley. He is now the Voice of the Wolfpack.
There is no doubt the best quarterback in the NFL this season is Aaron Rogers. He has tossed 24 touchdowns and only three ints. Those guys who get paid to analyze are all saying he is playing better than any quarterback in any year. They seem to forget what just four years ago Tom Brady threw 50 TDs and only 5 picks in the Patriot unbeaten regular season. You might also have heard the LSU-Alabama game was the college football game of the Century. At least the 2011 version of the game of the Century.
I have to admit my guy Philip Rivers is having quite a season. He leads the NFL with 14 interceptions. Sunday Rivers tossed six touchdowns. Four to his guys and two to the Packers. His worse year ever his second as the starter for the Chargers he had 15. The rate he is going now he will break that Thursday night. Have you noticed Drew Brees is second with 11 and Tom Brady has 10. I just have a feeling that every thing is just tooo good right now for Green Bay. We still have half the season to go.
I watched more of the Wake- Notre Dame game than I did of the LSU-Alabama game. Did you hear that Saturday night's crowd of 36 thousand and some was the smallest crowd Notre Dame has played in front of since 1925. It was the fourth largest crowd in Wake history.
What did I get out of the LSU-Alabama game. Neither one of those teams has enough offense to win the National Championship. Oklahoma State moved up to #2 in the BCS standings. If LSU finishes undefeated they will play I hope Stanford. LSU had better score more than nine if they want to win the National Championship.
I have done 1,200 broadcast on radio and TV of sporting events I have been a PA man for at least 652 events including 4 years North Carolina Wesleyan sports and 14 years for Gryphon baseball. Did post 58 Legion baseball a total of 11 years. Last five years Gryphon football and basketball but have done Gryphon Jv football as far back as 2003. Have done NASCAR TV shows and relay for life shows on WHIG TV. Have four children Stephanie, Brooks, Amy and Morgan. Wife Pat and I are working on our 33 years of marriage together
