If you listen to sports talk radio in the state of North Carolina David Glen on his Monday shows always has the best and the worst of the weekend. This Monday I think I will nominate Roy Williams as the worse. That was about as sorry a coaching job as you could possible coach and somehow despite Roy's effort the Heels won.
Why in the world when you have two of the best shot blockers in the country do you bring your outside people down to double down on the ball when Ohio clearly had no answer for Carolina on the inside. You could see every time Ohio's big people got the ball close to the basket they were looking to get rid of it because they knew anything they shot was coming back in their face. FINALLY with three minutes to go and down by four Carolina quit double teaming the ball down low and outscored Ohio the last three minutes of the game and overtime by 11.
I can't tell you how proud I am of the Wolfpack. If you look at who has beaten the Pack this year in almost every case that team had a big front line. Tonight the Pack got practically nothing inside from Howell and CJ was forced to move outside more and the Pack hung with Kansas playing in St Louis. Kansas playing in St Louis is like trying to beat Carolina in Greensboro in the NCAA Tournament.
Yes the Wolfpack gave Carolina all they wanted in the ACC Tournament but remember John Henson did not play so the Pack was able to get inside. I think Carolina is better than Kansas but without Marshall Kansas will win Sunday. White played well for Carolina but with Watts as his backup he looked lost and that is when Ohio made hay on the Heels.
By far and away Mark Gottfried is a better game coach than Roy. Despite his recruiting efforts the last few years coach K showed you this year he could finish second in the ACC with quite possibly his worse team this century.
Austin Rivers rumors are floating about that he's going pro. I am sure there is no one crying in Durham. His lack of team ball was the big reason Duke never looked like Duke this year.
Rumors persist that C J Leslie is going pro. All I can say about that is Josh Powell. Does anybody remember Powell decide to turn pro after his sophomore year at State and he has never been heard from since. I think he did get a ring one year being the 12th man on the Lakers or some team.
Carolina survives over time against a hot shooting Ohio Bobcats and now face Kansas Sunday. Let's go Heels. Let's get it done for the ACC.
