Mike Fox Has The Touch

Just in case you haven't heard former UNC pitcher Matt Harvey made his major league debut last night for the New York Mets struck out 11 batters in winning his first major league game.  North Carolina under Mike Fox has made several trips to the College World Series since Fox arrived from Rocky Mount and NC Wesleyan.  His main stay every year has been his pitching.  Fox must know a good pitcher when he sees one as he has been to Rocky Mount and plucked up Hobbs Johnson and Benton Moss from the Gryphons.

There is nothing like success and when Mike Fox walks into a pitcher's home and says I can get you to the major leagues boy he sure does have a resume' to back it up with all the pitcher he has put out over the last five to six years.

Game one of the American Legion Area One championship went to Greenville's Pitt County team 6-2 over Apex.  Game two is tonight.  Both teams are headed west August first as the State Legion Tournament is in Lenoir.  Next year it is about as close as it can possible get as Fleming Stadium in Wilson will be the host team.

The Olympics start tonight and all of those that have seen a preview of the show  are glowing about the it.  Remember London is five hours ahead of us so what you see at 8pm is taped delayed to the USA,  Still having a hard time making myself even care about it.

I know I went through it back in the sixties but can you imagine  getting out in this weather and running wind sprints.  I must be getting old or something because I don''t even want to get out in this weather to watch anybody else sweat.  Tell me when it is time for the kickoff of the first game.

Visitation for Rossie Tyler Gryphon JV Girls softball coach will be held Sunday night at Cofield Mortuary in Weldon.  His funeral will be Monday at noon at First Baptist Church in Weldon.
