Starting tonight the Big East get serious with all conference games from here on to the end. Five teams with one conference loss already and one of those five will not make the playoffs. Who that will be will be determined on the field in the next four weeks.
The top seed from the Big East will get a home game in the first round. #2 also is home. Here is where the brackets are going to be screwy again. The #3 seed hits the road and if both #2 and #3 win their opening round games they meet in round two. The Coastal Conference will have the same scenario but not against the Big East in Round one. Big East #1 will play the Coastal #5 in round one. Big East #4 will be at the Coastal #1.
I think we would all like to see every team put in a different bracket and keep all conferences away from other conference members until there is no one left but others in your conference. I have a hard time understanding why we need to be matched up with other conference teams so early. It truly hurts any conference in order to advance in the playoffs you have to knock off every team in your own conference to advance again.
To say the least I think we can all say that the ACC is the best baseball conference in America this year. The latest RPI released on Monday the ACC was #4 North Carolina, #5 Florida State,#6 Virginia, #9 Virginia Tech, #10 N C State, #17 Miami, #19 Georgia Tech, #21 Clemson.
If these eight teams are the top eight and play in the ACC Tournament in late May then the World Series may not have this good a field. Maryland, Wake, and Duke are all in the top 100 and Boston College who has won only five games all year is rated 177.
The ACC Tournament is once again in Durham and if these ratings keep going for the rest of the year this may turn out to be the best tournament ever.
Campbell who is having a great season is #35. I would almost bet the bank Campbell will be playing in Chapel Hill, Raleigh or some other ACC Regional this year.
Louisville and Montrezl Harrell of North Edgecombe High win the NCAA National Championship 82-76 over Michigan. It was one of the best played championship games in quite a while.
