Rained Out In Greenville

They started early in Greenville hoping to beat the rain so Coleman Pitt Post 58 put two runs on the board in the top of the first.  Northern Left hander Derrick Carter set Post 39 down 1-2-3 in the first.  Post 58 scored two runs in the top of the second and  was still batting when the rains came.  The game has been rained out tonight.

Big question now is will the game start up again  with Post 58 still batting or start all over?  The answer to that question is yes Post 58 will return to Greenville Friday and pick the game up in the top of the second with Post 58 still batting.  Here is where I think Post 58 is still in a jam.  If I understand the playoff rules correctly this series has to be completed by the end of Saturday in order for the third round to start Sunday night.

The weather forecast is about what it was today so there is a possibility that there could be a rain out Friday.  If that happens the series is over because if they tried to finish the one game on Saturday the best Post 58 can do is tie one game a piece.  By rule if neither team has won two games by the date deadline the winner of said series is the winner of the first game.

Post 58 will have to play Friday and win and then must win Saturday.  If either day becomes a rain out Post 39 wins the series. They sit in the car bird seat so if it rains at all after lunch Friday they can say the field is too wet and cancel and win the series.  If the shoe was on the other foot wouldn't we do the same if we had the chance.  Post 58 needs sunshine all day Friday so there is no chance to cancel.  You know if we can get it back to Rocky Mount for a Saturday game Hank Jones will do everything in his power to play Saturday.

Under the heading Where Are They Now?  We can report that former Gryphon and North Carolina pitcher Hobbs Johnson reported to Helena Montana Wednesday night and it now being prepped to start pitching for the advance Rookie League team Helena Brewers.  He has been in Arizona at the Brewers spring training facility where doctors for the Brewers examined him from head to toe to make sure the Brewers had a healthy pitcher.  Everything must be fine as they shipped him north to Montana.


If you are like me and like to follow all of our local athletes regardless of the college level or pro  and you follow Brian Goodwin's progress with the Washington Nationals you already know then he is up on the futures list as Washington's #1 prospect after Anthony Reardon has been sent to the big club in Washington.

Brain over the last month has driven his batting average up to 259 which means he's hitting over three hundred the last month.  During the last 30 games he has struck out less than one time a game which right now is his big bug-a-boo in double A baseball.  The Nationals have announced that they plan to keep Brian in AA for this year and start him out next spring in AAA with hopes of him being the starting outfielder for Washingon in 2015.

Xavier Macklin playing for the River Monster in Vermont has batted 23 times so far with five hits.  It is all or nothing for the X man so far as three of his five hits are doubles but he has struck out 10 times out of 23.  That's about 44% of the time.

glad to see in the Telegram that Michael Deloatch from Northern Nash has signed with a pro basketball team in Florence Italy.  Back when Moe played at Northern  he could get on hot streaks and hit jumper from 30 feet like a machine gun.  Hope after this year soembody in the US picks him up.
