West Sweeps All Star Basketball Games

The West Girls took the lead for good in the second quarter after a Northern Nash's Alexus Hill had drained a three pointer at the end of the first quarter and gave the East a 17-16 lead.  The West pulled away to win by a score of 82-68.

Jamie Cherry from West Craven lead the East  scoring pouring in 24 points.   Everyone from Pam Gainey at Rocky Mount, Terry Cash at Nash Central and Grover Battle at Northern Nash have in recent years had to face Cherry during the High School playoffs.  Shaylen  Burnette who scored 16 points for the West was named the games MVP.  Northern's Alexus Hill scored 8 points for the East in her last high school basketball game.

The boys games was much like the girls  as the farther the game went the bigger the West lead grew and at one point was 13 points.  Late in the third the East trimmed the lead to three points but the West finished the third leading by 10.  Seven points was a close as the East could get in the final two minutes before Jeremy Hill  24 points from Page High School won the MVP award as the West beats the East 98-86.

Rocky Mount's Dante Battle like Hill playing his last high school game had a double double scoring 13 points and hauled down 13 rebounds in the East's teams losing effort.  Alexus Hill will play basketball at a Gardner Webb while Battle will be in Alabama at Wallace State.

Tuesday during the North Carolina Coaching Association  soccer will be the sport of entertainment  as there will be a boys and girls soccer game played at UNC Greensboro soccer field.  The coaching clinic ends the entertainment portion Wednesday with the All Star football game.


Garner beat Wayne County in game two of the Area One American Legion playoffs 8-3 to win Area One two games to none. Both begin play Thursday in the State American legion playoffs in Lexington.
