2014 The Last Half

                                          June

J'Kyra Brown announces she is transferring from ECU to Virginia after having a successful from year winning offensive player award.

                                           July

ECU Fired former Northern Nash graduate Billy Godwin as baseball coach, Godwin never had a losing season winning 314- while losing 224 but expectations wanted more.

WRAL's Tom Suitor and former Rocky Mount resident was named to the North Carolina Broadcasters Hall Of Fame.

Rocky Mount's 9/10 year old all stars won their district tournament and made it to the State championships in Morganton.

The Rocky Mount National 11/12 year olds won the loser bracket in district play in Elizabeth City earning them a place in the  state championships in Greenville.

                                         August

The Nash County Babe Ruth 14u team won the Eastern North Carolina Babe Ruth Tournament and made it to the SE Regional in Hickory where they finished 3rd.

Rocky Mount high school football team was featured in USA Today during the first day of football contact for all high schools across the nation.

                                           September

Former Tarboro and Carolina football player Shaun Draughn signs a one year deal with the San Diego Chargers.  He was released in November but finished the NFL season with the Cleveland Browns.

Former Gryphon and Carolina baseball player Hobbs Johnson finished his first year in pro ball going 12-8 with a 2.93 ERA in Brevard Florida.

Brian Goodwin finished the year on the IR for the Syracuse Chiefs in AAA after being injured in July.  He batted 219 for  the year.

Form Nash Central Bulldog Xavier Mackin was released by Gate City in the Frontier League after batting 201.  It is probably X man's last stop in baseball.

                                             October

Tarboro's Todd Gurley is suspended by the University of Georgia football team after  he received $3,000 for payment of his autograph.  Later after the suspended end Gurley injured his knee and now waits on the NFL draft.

Rocky Mount Tennis duo of Chandler Brice and Eliza Fike won the Regional championship and finished 3rd in the state finals.

Northern Nash boys Cross country team won the Regional and finished with their highest finish ever in the state run.

Tragedy Strikes the Gryphon nation when volleyball and basketball player Tiera Hinton was killed in and auto wreck.

                                          November


Nash Central football team finishes the football season going winless for the 2nd season year in a row.  The losing streak is 24 starting the 2015 football season.

Gryphon football coach Jason Battle got a monkey off his back with a first round upset win in the state playoffs.  The Gryphons beat Western Alamance who for years have been demons to the Gryphons in the playoffs.

Rocky Mount Academy won their second straight 8 man football title gong undefeated at 12-0.


                                         December

Former Nash Central football player Jalen Hendricks finished 3rd in the nation in DII football in all purpose yards, that's rushing , catching, kick returns and interceptions.  He averaged 210 yards per game.
