Climbing Up The Ladder

The UNC baseball team is finding it hard to win ACC games this year.  They stand 7-8 after five weekends of conference play but they have  come to count on a conference win  when Benton Moss takes the hill.  Sunday at Clemson Moss found himself down 4-0 early in the game but he was still in the game into the seventh inning and by that time the Tar Heels had piled up eight runs and survive to win one game at Clemson 8-7.  Benton Moss is now 5-0 on the season and 24-7 lifetime for the Tar Heels and 24 wins makes him the 10th winningest pitcher  in North Carolina history.

Heard Saturday night that Hunt beat Nash Central 4-3 Thursday night to take the lead in the Big East Baseball with a 3-1 record.  Nash Central 2-1 and Fike 2-1 are Next.  Northern Nash and Rocky Mount are 2-2 and Southern Nash is 0-4.

Saturday tournament baseball saw Rocky Mount pitch the end of the bench and they lost to SW Guilford 14-9. this was their fourth game of the week and simply didn't have anyone to throw. The highlight of the games was a grand slam home run by Josh Carter which is the first home run of the year for the Gryphons.    Nash Central lost 8-7 to Roxboro Community and Northern Routed Southern Wayne 15-2.  There will be more tournament action today.

I have a very hard time for any instate school playing in any sport with the chance to win it all not pulling for them when they represent all of us.  Duke University is a North Carolina based school and that is enough for me to pull for them Monday night to win their fifth College basketball National championship.

They are a member of the ACC which is also the school I pull for conference.  I find it hard to believe anybody pulls against neighbors just because they hate that neighbor.  I pull hard Saturday night for the Devils and I will again Monday night as they represent me playing for the title.

I know about 75% of all tournament brackets were busted big time with Kentucky losing.  I think Duke will be hard to beat if they come out from the get go and play the defense they played the last 16 minutes of the first half after Michigan State made their first four threes and led 14-6.

Wisconsin has some good shooters on the outside that are tall which I think that is why Duke has the edge.  Duke will cover them better than Kentucky did on the outside and when Duke stands outside the three point line and the big Badgers come to cover them Duke will charge to the basket like they did against the Spartans and those big men are not quick enough to cover them from 20 feet back to the goal.

GO DUKE!!!!
