Off And Crawling

Coleman Pitt Post 58 opened up the 2016 Summer baseball season tonight at Legion Field.  Before we dive into the game let's look about some facts before we start.  Having taken last year off CP 58 has only one returning player from the 2014 team Forest Bell.  Since there was no team last year they have no college freshman eligible  to play so 19 of the 20 players on the roster are stepping up against most compettion these guys have yet to face.

Coach Hank Jones is hoping that pitching is the best part of this team but the first inning Pitt County sent the first seven batters to the plate and all seven reached base three seeing eye singles, two walks and two hit batters. Before the inning ended Post 39 led 5-0.  Nerves played a big factor for Cameron Taylor and Hank Jones sent him back out in the Second to get his feet on the ground.  Three hits and a walk and Post 58 finds themselves down 8-0 before they had all had at least one bat.

Trevor Mills finished the second and got through the third.  Complicated matters at this point Post 58 decided to wait until two outs in the third to get their first hit off Post 39 starter Charlie King as David Harrison laced a single to right.  It wasn't that King was over powering just nothing was happening in the batters box for Coleman Pitt. King went the first four innings giving up two as the second hit was from Tarboro's Trey Wells. King walked four and hit a batter and all seven were left on base.

Trevor Mills pitched with one out in the second until two outs in the fifth giving up a run.  Trey Wells gave up a run in an inning 1/3 and looked like this would be a mercy rule game.  The lone run for Post 58 scratched across in the fourth with a bases loaded walk to Colby Carter who gets the only CP58 RBI of the night.

Noah Schrock pitched two scoreless inning and Tyler Barrett finish a scoreless ninth.  Post 58 got two hits after the fourth as Wells got a second hit and Josh Pittman had the other. Eight Post 58 batters walked and only one scored. Post 39 pounded out 15 hits another ten reach by walk or clonk.  The good news was after all that the Final is 10-1. Could have been worse

All 18 players who suited up got at least two at bats each.  There was nothing wrong with the defense but there is one thing for sure.  Friday night look for every player to get in the game and a couple of swings as no one had nailed down full time playing position on this team.

Yet, as bad as it seemed do away and start over the first ten batters for Pitt County and we had a  2-1 finish the last seven innings.

Post 58 returns  to action Friday night at Legion Field as Post 58 will try to start all over against Post 39.
