Strike Early And Hang On

The Rocky Mount Gryphons traveled to Cleveland Friday afternoon and struck in the first inning and at one point lead 8-0 but hold on to win 9-6 in the final tuneup before conference play starts next Tuesday.

Spencer Ramsey starting at third base for the injured Jake Philbeck got the Gryphons  going with a single followed by a Jamar Ellis single.  Logan Pearce reached on an infield error to load the bases.  David Harrison singled driving home two runs.  A walked reloaded the bases and Zack Keeter singled drive home two more but was thrown out at second trying to get a double.

Ben Seracki got the start on the mound and sailed along through the first four innings. The Gryphons struck again in the fourth when leadoff batter Lane Butler walked, hits by Josh Pittman and Spencer Ramsey loaded the bases. Jamar Ellis walked getting an RBI and run number five.

Logan Pearce fly out produced run number six and David Harrison double drove home two more.  Serackj hit the first batter in the fourth followed by a double and walk to load the bases.  A sac fly scored Cleveland's first run. A single plated two more.  Another walk a dropped fly ball scored two more.  One more hit ended Seracki's day after the 6th run of inning scored.  Zack Keeter came from behind the plate and got the final two outs in the fourth.

Now we have a ball game but Zack Keeter allows only one hit the last two innings. The Gryphons added a run in the sixth when Jamar Ellis walked, David Harrison got his second double walks to Seracki and Isaiah Stewart with Stewart earning an rbi.

Ben Seracki gets the win pitching four and a third innings allowing five hits and Keeter gets the save allowing a hit over two and a third innings.

David Harrison leads the offense getting three hits and four rbi.  Lane Butler and Spencer Ramsey have two hits.  Josh Pittman, Jamar Ellis, Isaiah Stewart and Zack Keeter have hits.

Nash Central beat SouthWest Edgecombe 1-0 on Friday to raise their record to 4-3

The Gryphons  4-2 open conference play Tuesday night at home hosting Nash Central.

Southern Nash Beat Farmville 11-1 to go to 7-2 on the season they play Fike to open conference play Tuesday.
