Instant Classic

If only ESPN had of been filming the match today then everyone could have gone home and watched it as an Instant Classic. Hunt and Rocky Mount probably the best two teams in Big East Volley ball went tooth and Nail for five games. Each has lost to South Central this season so each ones schedule mirrors each other.

The Lady Gryphons won the first game 25-21 and followed that one winning 27-25. Games three and four were won by the Lady Warriors 25-16 and 25-18. Volley ball plays game five to fifteen points so getting the lead is important. The Lady Gryphons took the lead at 5-4 and closed out the warriors 15-10. Tia Hudgins has put together two conference games this week that would have her in the lead as League MVP. Despite being shorter than Hunt Hudgins dominated the net on both side offense and defense.

Lady Gryphons go to 2-0 in league play and 8-2 overall. Big week of two conference games at home and a Wednesday road trip to Conley up for the Ladies next week.

Last week at D H Conley soccer edged the Vikings 4-3 Thursday in Rocky Mount the same team came out on top this time by a 5-2 score. Soccers heads into conference play 7-1-1.

I saw on face book earlier that the JV football team beat Hertford Country but I have no details.

Now let's look at Friday night's action.

Hertford County at Rocky Mount. Last week Hertford County beat Nash Central by one at home. They are 3-0. Beside NC they edged Gates Co 21-20 and beat Bertie at home 26-12. The big question in this one is can Rocky Mount block the defensive front for HC? I think Rocky Mount finds a way as they badly need a win. Rocky Mount 20-Hertford Co 14. Rocky Mount wins in front of former coach B W Holt who is in town to see the game.

Northern Nash hits the road going to South Central. This will be a Knight night as they will make the trip back from Winterville winning this one 21-16.

Bertie will come to Nash Central and the Bulldogs will find their first win of the season as they whip Bertie 26-6.

Southern Nash host Roanoke Rapids and assuming they hold on to the ball win over the Yellow Jackets 35-14.

Now the game of the night. This game will go a long ways in giving all of us an idea about SouthWest Edgecombe and for Big East Fans the Hunt Warriors. Was that close game last week with North Edgecombe a warning for the Cougars. If this game is close either way it will be a warning for conference members that both of these teams are excellent. A lopsided score one way or the other could spell doom for the lopsided loser if that happens. I don't think it will.
SWE 26 Hunt 20.

Terrell Hudgins was at the volley ball game tonight watching sister Tia play. Between games I sat down with Terrell and he seems very proud of his effort trying out with the Dallas Cowboys. Just too many veteran receivers ahead of him. Trying to stay in shape waiting for an injury to some teams wide receiver that might give him another chance. We hope you get that chance Terrell!
