Big East Baseball Strong As Ever

Northern Nash tonight took the #1 seed from the Cape Fear Valley to the wire before they lose in Sanford by a 4-3 score. The top three seeds advance including Nash Central who out scored Jacksonville to win 11-10.  Nash Central gets to play the in the right place at the right time roll as their next opponent will be North Lenoir a #4 seed from Eastern Carolina Conference who upset the #2 seed West Brunswick.  Nash Central as a #3 seed will host North Lenoir Tuesday night in the Dog Pound.

The top two Big East teams Hunt and Rocky Mount advanced as between them they gave up one run in their two games.  Hunt who is by far the best hitting team in the Big East rolled over Washington 13-1.  They now will play Eastern Wayne the #2 seed from the Eastern Carolina Conference at Hunt.  Rocky Mount meets C B Aycock who won 10-4 to earn the right to host Rocky Mount.

The Southern Nash Doubles team of Owen Fike and Adam Glover are still alive as they won two matches today and are now in the final four in the State 3-A doubles tennis going on in Burlington.  Their team mates Tim Lewandowski and Armondo Villareal won their opening match but fell in three set in the second round to knock them out of the tournament.  The doubles team from Northern Nash Bryson Williams and Jonah Richardson lost in the round of 16.

The singles the Big East only had two to make the top sixteen and both made it to the final eight before finding  the exit.  Turner Votipka won his opening match  but lost in the final eight and Fike's Nick James did the same losing in the final eight.

The 3-A track and field championships are over and at this point Rocky Mount finished 15th.  I will try to give more details on all the Nash County schools Saturday.
