Any one who I have talked with since we found out RM was playing Hertford County knows I am concerned over the number of runs that this Gryphon
Hertford County sent their Ace Brandon Warren who is heading to Barton to the mound at Gryphon Stadium and Warren held the Gryphons to four hits. Lucky for the Gryphons that the best pitcher in the history of this area was on the mound in Benton Moss. Moss struck out 19 allowed four hits and walked two batters and the Gryphons chipped in a couple of errors and Hertford County had runners on base they just could not make contact with the ball when they really needed it. It was the 31st time Moss has been the winner while losing only 3 times in his four varsity season which makes him the winningest pitch ever in this area.
Rocky Mount got on the board in the first when Jeremy Johnson struck out but reached first on a passed ball. Cameron Ramsey reach on an error and Benton Moss stroked a single to drive in the first run of the game.
The game stayed 1-0 until the fifth when Thomas Berry and Benton Moss singled both stole a base a piece and reach home on a error by the second baseman fielding a hit ball. Andy Morris drove in run #4 in the sixth to give the Gryphons plenty of cushion which was not needed with Moss on the hill.
Benton Moss collected two hits and Thomas Berry and Andy Morris the other two. Brandon Warren took the loss for the Bears.
Rocky Mount wins their 17th on the season and now head to C B Aycock Tuesday night in the second round.
I will blog again later tonight to give the track and field results which are on going now.
