The College World Series starts Saturday and UNC is featured in the first game against the Commodores of Vanderbilt. The Tar Heels with try for the ninth time to win the Series while Vandy make their first appearance ever. Vandy is 52-10 while Carolina is 52-14. Carolina to say the least does not draw the weak sister of the tournament in Vanderbilt.
Headed to the new TD Ameritrade Stadium with the Heels will be former Gryphon Hobbs Johnson who as a freshman pitcher has appeared in six games for the Tar Heels this season. Should Hobbs see any action in Omaha it will probably be to face a left handed batter and once he is through with that batter out of the game.
Virginia somehow or other managed to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth to squeeze by UC-Irvine 3-2. They begin play in the College World Series Sunday afternoon.
Florida State was the exact opposite of Virginia. We talked yesterday where Virginia needed to score runs. FSU needed better pitching giving up 20 runs the last two Super Regional game. They will be home watching the Heels and Cavs.
Newly Gryphon graduate Benton Moss begins his journey on the Cain-Morehead Scholarship this Saturday when he leaves to head to Wyoming to spend thirty days in the wilderness. Part of the enrichment program of the Scholarship each summer Benton will have a variety of things to do. Talk about getting close to nature but Benton will be right in the middle of all the nature he will ever want to see by the end of July. Have a great time Benton and make plans to travel with the Tar Heel baseball team to Omaha next year.
Tonight I will be at the Sports Complex as the little league is getting close to having it's champions crowned. Tonight will be the first game and if the undefeated teams wins it is over while if the one loss team can win tonight there will be another game to decide the championship.
We will get a look for the first time at this years little league all stars as they will be announced tonight if the champion is crowned.
Legion heads to Fleming Stadium Wednesday as the stretch run start. The regular season runs to July 2nd and the playoffs start. Should Post 58 survive to make it to the State Tournament this year it is being held in Morehead City. The second half of the season Post 58 is 8-3 and 3-0 in Area play.

Talked to Hobbs girlfriend mom yesterday and she said he was not going to Omaha. She said that he could not even dress out for the regional or super regional. He has to go to summer school for both semesters. If he does not pass both semester that he will not be eligible to play next year...Mike Pearce
