Post 58 Players Honoring Dr. Raymond Bauer

We have talked several times this year about the different combination of uniforms which Post 58 has worn so far and there still might be a couple  that we haven't seen.  Every player  has a sweatshirt, jersey, pants, socks and cap that they wear every game..  All players are required that there must be a patch on a shoulder which is the American Legion patch.  No player is allowed in a game without wearing the patch.

This season Post 58 has added a patch  to the other shoulder honoring Dr Raymond "Moe" Bauer.  Bauer One of the first three faculty members at North Carolina Wesleyan when the school opened in 1960. Baseball coach to Athletic Director  Bauer served NCW in both athletics and in the classroom becoming a Professor at the college.

Before Bauer found a home in Rocky Mount he letter four years in baseball in high school.  Got a  baseball scholarship to Wake Forest College.  He was working his way up the professional baseball ladder when Uncle Sam called and Bauer served his country.  Returning from military service Moe got as high a AAA before his baseball career ended.

Receiving his Masters Degree in Education  and PHD from UNC Chapel Hill  he found a home at NCW where years later the Wesleyan baseball field would be named after him.  A military veteran Bauer joined Post 58 where for years he serve as the Athletic Officer.  Athletic Officer means in charge of Legion Baseball.

Bauer is a member of the Wake Forest University Sports Hall of Fame  where he joined in 1990.  The North Carolina Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame as one of the first class members  at Wesleyan in 1999 and a member of the North Carolina American Legion Hall of Fame in 1993.  His many years of service to Coleman-Pitt Post 58 the Post  made him an Honorary Life member.

Bauer's impact on Post 58 is still felt today almost six years since his passing.  History is important to all of us whether we realize it or not.  Moe probably has meant more to Post 58 baseball than anyone during it's baseball history. We all need to remember our past and honor those who help make us what we are today.

Post 58 is back in action Saturday afternoon when they play a double header against Edenton starting at 5pm.  Cloeman Pitt Post 58 players are remembering each time they put on their uniform the man who has had a great impact on their life whether they know it or not.

The patch is very simple.   "MOE"

The best way to describe Moe in my mind is that he was a true gentleman. Competitive - yes, but always gracious in victory and defeat. He knew that is was always more about people and the experience than it was aboutwinning at all costs. He is still missed by those of us who knew him well. And when you are talking about Post 58 baseball, you can never leave out Jerry Carter and Jeep Thomas. Moe would be the first to defer to that as well.
