Post 58 Streaking

Coleman Pitt Post 58 American Legion baseball team from Rocky Mount won their 6th straight game tonight besting North Raleigh Post 297 13-3 in seven innings. There is a method to the madness and this hot streak has brought about consistent starting pitching and as always this team can hit.

58 gets 15 hits lead by Spires Miller from Tarboro who went  2-2 and had four rbi before he was pitched hit for in the fifth inning.  Another Tarboro Viking having a big game was Chase Johnson had two doubles.  Thomas Berry two hits, Abel Hernandez from Roanoke Rapids  pick up two singles Kyle Pratt another Tarboro Product two singles. all nine batters in the starting line up had at least one hit. Jerrick Oxendine,Khalil Macklin, Jeremy Lucas, Matthew Berry  and Jon Naylor off the bench got one.

Cam Webb went five inning on the mound on this sweltering night gave up four hits struck out six and only walked three batters.  Dillon Moore pitch the final two innings.

The six game winning streak Post 58 has scored 70 runs while holding the other side to 18.  That first week 58 was giving up 11 per game, boy has that stat dropped while the run production has stayed the same.  Post 58 takes a week off to let all the Seniors graduate this weekend and will not play again until next Wednesday when they travel to Wilson for the first of their six conference games with Wilson and Edenton.

Next Thursday they will travel to Pickle Country to Mount Olive  to meet Wayne County and then return home Saturday for a double header with Edenton.  Post 58 enters this break with an 8-3 record and 3-0 in Area play.

The Major league baseball draft is completed  with more than 1500 players selected.  15 more North Carolina player were drafted but none from  this area.  To show you what the Morehead Scholarship will do no one drafted Benton Moss knowing he was headed to Chapel Hill.  To me a big surprise was when no one draftd John Wooten from ECU  who is the son of former Rocky Mount baseball player Sonny Wooten.  Wooten played high school ball at Eastern Wayne.

Talking with Khalil Macklin Xavier's little brother tonight at the Legion game.  X agent is negotiating now with the A's .  I don't think it will be too long before we have  both of our local players are signed up by their teams and off to be pro baseball players.

That is because john wooten wasn't eligible for the draft. He was only a sophomore this season.

John Wooten is a sophmore. Cannot be drafted until your junior year.
