At Any Level This Was A Good One

If you are a regular reader of this blog then you have probably heard me say this at some point in time that it doesn't matter how old they are if both teams are equal then that game can be a really good one and there was one tonight at the Sports Complex in the Midget 9/10 winners bracket game..

The Rocky Mount National League All Stars took on the Zebulon Stars in the winners bracket game with the winner sitting pretty in the championship game at two pm Saturday afternoon while the loser plays at noon on Saturday and must win that game to play the two pm game.

Through three innings the game was dead locked at 0-0 but in the top of the fourth Rocky Mount scratched home a run to take a 1-0.  That lead held until Zebulon scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead and all they need to do is get Rocky Mount out in the top of the sixth and they are in the championship game.  Rocky Mount scored twice in the sixth with two out and take a 3-2 lead  and all they need to do is get Zebulon out in the bottom of the sixth  and they are in the championship game.

Zebulon score twice in the bottom of the sixth to secure their spot in the championship game 4-3 over the Rocky Mount National League All Stars.  The defense that had been special for Rocky Mount in their two wins earlier this week was their down fall tonight as all four Zebulon runs scored when the Nationals started throwing the ball all over the field.  As they say that little league baseball.

This put Zebulon in the 2.00pm championship game where they will play the noon winner which will either be Rocky Mount  National or Rocky Mount American League All Stars who tonight had to win twice to make it to the semifinal game at noon Saturday.

Two 6.00pm games tonight were loser bracket games where the loser was eliminated.  One game feature the Nash County All Stars fro Spring Hope, Red Oak and Baily  and they lost to Wendell 8-1.  The
other loser bracket game the Rocky Mount American League All Stars drilled Knightdale by a 30-0 score in four innings.  That put Rocky Mount American facing Wendell in the 8.00pm game and it only took four innings for the American league stars  to destroy Wendell 20-0.  The two games the American Leaguers played they won by a combined 50-0.  Now remember these are all star teams they are beating.

This set up Rocky Mount Red versus Rocky Mount Blue in the high noon game with the loser out and the winner turning around and playing again at 2.00pm.  If Zebulon wins the 2.00pm game they are the District Champs of Tar Heel Midget 9/10 years old and win the right to go to the State in two weeks in Hickory.  Which ever Rocky Mount teams wins at Noon they must win at two and then win Sunday afternoon which would then be the Championship game.

We are not through yet Friday afternoon the 13 year of Nash County Babe Ruth Team beat Perquimans County  by an 5-3 score and play for their bracket championship at 7.00pm Saturday against  a team from Lumberton called Border Belt .  That winner will play the other bracket winner Monday night and that winner moves on to the SouthEast Regional in Stafford Virginia.

There is more the 14 year old Babe Ruth team won their opening round in Larinburg today.  Sorry I don't have a source down there feeding me the info to pass it on to you so I don't know the score or who and when they play Saturday.  All I know is they won Friday.

High Noon Saturday at the Sports Complex.  Rocky Mount Nationals versus Rocky Mount American.  The winner is still alive for the District tournament while it will be all over for the loser.
