Babe Ruth 13U Wins District Title

The 13 year Old Babe Ruth All Star team from Nash County won Eastern North Carolina District 5 Babe Ruth championship this past weekend  beating Pitt County and have qualified for the Eastern North Carolina State Championships this weekend in Pikeville.

They begin play on Thursday and they will take on the host team Wayne County at 7.00pm.  The games are being played at C B Aycock High School on Highway 171 in Pikeville.  North Carolina qualifies a Eastern and  a Western Champion so if Nash County wins this weekend they are off the the Southeast Regional in Stafford Virginia.

The members of this Babe Ruth team are Chad Nelms, Forest Bell, Matt Rhodes, John Michael Kelly, Whit Casper, Trey Braswell, Tyler Barrett, Hunter Moore, Darrius Cooper, Brandon Kelly, Luke Mills, Markese Clapp and Cole Pierce.

The coaching staff is long time coach Joe Hester, Joe Bell and  Wesley Joyner.

Starting Wednesday the Tar Heel Midget League District Tournament gets under way at the Sports Complex in Rocky Mount.  The action begins at 6.00pm and the Stretchlon Sports Show will be there with cameras rolling.  One field will be featuring one of the Rocky Mount teams I am not sure whether it is the American League team or National but I believe I heard it is Jeremy Stewarts team   or the other choice is Johnny Ramsey's team.  They will be  going up against the Nash County team from Spring Hope.

The winner of that game  will play at 6.00pm Thursday against the other Rocky Mount team in a winners bracket game.  During the drawing because of an odd number of teams  one team got a bye on Wednesday and it was one of the Rocky Mount teams.   If no weather delays  the championship game is scheduled for 2.00pm Saturday at the Sports Complex and if it is a local team playing we plan to show it at sometime on the Stretchlon Sports Show.  That championship game Saturday would be if the undefeated team was to win.  If the loser bracket team knocks off the undefeated team the championship game would be Sunday at 2.00pm.

Jeremy Stewarts 2010 Midget  Team is the defending State Champs. There will not be many players from that team as most moved up to Senior Little League but Jeremy and his staff will try to win it again.

Last night Wayne County beat Pitt County 13-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the best of five series for Area One East American Legion Playoff.  WC needs one more win to qualify for the Sate Tournament in Morehead City even though they still have another series with the Area One West winner which will either be Cary or North Chatham.  Both the East and West winners make the State Tournament

The USA Team participating in the IFAF Senior World Football Championships won the Group A Bracket on Tuesday beating Mexico 17-7.  They were 3-0 in Group A Play.  They will play either Canada or Japan the Group B winner Saturday in Innsbruck Austria.  The Japan/Canada game is today.  Stephan Virgil former Rocky Mount Gryphon and Virginia Tech Hokie is the starting cornerback and stats from his first two games were he had one tackle for a loss and two pass knock downs.  The US team like everyone else has played three games in five days.
