Hudgins-Virgil Telephones Should Ring Soon

The NFL Players Association needs to become a union again and once that happens I think NFL football will be on again.  If the players association agrees to the roster limits of 90 that will put ten more players in each training camp this summer and that is very good news for both free agent players from Rocky Mount Stephan Virgil and Terrell Hudgins.

Normally teams start training camps with 80 but this is one of those unusual years with the lockout  and the apparent cancellation of the Hall Of Fame Game.  Teams will start with 90 and with more players in camp bodies will be needed.  It is obvious that more players in camp you have to beat out more players to make what ever team you are in the camp of.

The North Carolina Coaches clinic has ended in Greensboro and as entertainment during the the week all of the North Carolina senior players who played in all star games this week strut their stuff for the last time as a so called high school player.  We all know each and every one of them graduated in June but it is ok to say this was their last High School event.

The West dominated in football winning 19-7.  Soccer no one was able to determine who was best as both the boys and girls tied .  The girls 1-1 and a goal from Rocky Mount's Andrew Morales  the East boys tied the West 2-2.

Basketball split as the East girls won the basketball game 66-58 while the West boys won 100-93.  Football, boys soccer,Volleyball and cross country coaches  have one week until the start of practice.  Saturday July 30th is the first time practice can be held but we all know high school sports are year round now.

I would like to congratulate Tarboro's Todd Gurley on his trip to France where he took part in the World Youth Championships.  Gurley the State 2-A 110 meter hurdles champion has his personal best in the meet.  I have been able to be a part two years in a row on the Stretchlon Spots show to have the Tarboro Viking football players on celebrating their football championships.  Todd is a very special young man.

It is a special time over the next couple of weeks around our family.  Daughter Stephanie's husband Jarrod is  a United States Marine.  He arrived home from Afganistan Tuesday for two weeks of R&R.  He is stationed at Camp Leatherneck where the average day time temperature is 130 degrees this time of year.  There is no humidity there so 98 degrees and 88% humidity seemed like a frying pan over the 130degrees.

There seems to be a shift in our country.  Jarrod has told us of stories of at each airport he has gone through of the people who have patted him on the back and thanked him for serving his country.  There was a time when returning from Vietnam soldiers were scorned.  This countries money problems seem to be bringing the people back to at least realize how close we are losing what we all have.

Welcome home Jarrod even though it is only for two weeks.
