The only other conference member to be unscratched in the first half of the season is Southern Nash. This is a real true statement about the Firebirds. They have been their own worst enemy putting the ball on the ground. From here on out they will not have the luxury of fumbling four times and still winning. The coaches were divided between second and third on the Firebirds and they are right now who they should be.
Nash Central was the
To this point there seems to be a clear upper level in the conference and then a mid level. I don’t think any of the three conference teams left to talk about are bad at all. They just have less wiggle room to make mistakes.
Rocky Mount found out against Rose that there is another level of competition and at this point they are not there. They gave up 49 points. Secondary tackling was suspect. The defense scored again Friday night and take away the controversial touchdown on the last play of the half and there was a kickoff run back the defense hung tough.
Northern Nash was picked second and Knight fans have found out quickly that inexperienced football players who have to learn on the job can take it on the chin. The Knight defense has played well enough to win games but has had little help from their teammates on offense. When you add to the plight that Northern is catching some of their non conference foes having great years it is hard to find wins.
Fike is trying to find past glory that during the past half decade has evaded them. They have proven to be their own worse enemy as they keep giving the other side too many chances with their ball. If Fike catches a night where all the pieces come together they could knock anybody off from their perch.
I think that statement could be said about anyone in this Big East. Despite the Nash County schools taking it on the chin from three 4-A schools over the weekend in their level they can just about beat anyone on any night. Remember the regular season ends the last Friday night of October this year so the end is a lot closer than you think.
