Bad Day At Blackrock.

All three public high schools that have a Rocky Mount address take it on the chin Friday night as Rocky Mount is Rocked at home while Northern Nash and Nash Central get pulverized on the road.

Rocky Mount still remembers the five touchdown night put on them by former Rampant Andre Brown who now plays for the New York Giants laid on them several years ago.    Professional football might need to save a spot for Marquis Gorham as Gorham scores on two touchdown passes covering 42 and 47 yards.  He adds rushing touchdowns of 6 and 7 yards and to tried  to act like Andre Brown he took a kickoff to the house  of 75 yards to lead Rose to 49-20 victory over the Gryphons.

Gorham is actually responsible for six touchdowns but one was for Rocky Mount.  His first carry of the night the Gryphons hit him in the backfield at the 19 yard line and he fumbled the ball and after the chase Nah' Graves recovered the fumble in the enzone to give RM a 6-0 lead.  I think Gorham made up for that score rushing for forty yards and caught passes for 192 yards.

It took a 42-6 lead before RM scored on a Mason Hines  and Tyrell Williams runs.  Christian Grant came in the game to go 2-2 on extra point for the Gryphons their first kicking extra point attempts of the year.

Let me give you the good news for the Bulldogs of Nash Central as Jalen Hendricks did not play as the Bulldog coaches thought it best for Hendricks to spend more time on the sidelines following his sprain ankle last week. Down 22-0 at the half the Bulldogs got as close as 22-13 before the bottom fell out and the Bears of New Bern added 28 more points in the second half to down the Bulldogs 50-13.

Northern Nash not only had a long ride to the home of Michael Jordan Laney High but they were taking on a team scoring more than 50 per game.  The really good news is the Knights held them  10 points under their average.  The bad  news they were shutout.  Laney 42- Northern Nash 0.  All three public high schools in Rocky Mount lose by a combined  141-33.

Southern Nash  is the only county school that wins as they beat North Granville 42-20.  Tarboro travels to North Pitt and gets a scare   32-21 over NP.  Rocky Mount Academy lost to Cary Christian 50-0 to add to the Rocky Mount schools misery.  Kinston beat SouthWest Edgecombe 40-12 as they also opened conference play.

Most every body gets off next week except for Tarboro and Northern Nash when they make up the Hurricane game.  I will be there filling in for Wes Bradshaw on the WHIG-TV game of the week.
