Early in the season there was concern for many of us that David Harrison was not pitching like a D1 pitcher but during his outing in the Easter Tournament pitched a one hitter and ever since has every one watching a top prospect in action.
Tonight in a vital game with Hunt in Rocky Mount Harrison out duels Warriors pitcher Jacob Williamson who himself should have won the game with his effort but Harrison was better. The lone walk on the night by Williamson advanced to second and third on wild pitches and scored on a two out single by junior shortstop Logan Pearce in the third and the runner on third Isaiah Stewart would prove to be the only run of the game. Rocky Mount wins 1-0 going to 4-3 in the Big East while Hunt drops to 3-4.
Jacob Williamson scattered six hits struck out nine and the lone walk. Harrison struck out 10. Allowed a solid single to Hunt's first baseman Thomas Helms in the second and a pop up lost in the lights that dropped for a double from the lead off batter in the fourth Bryson Worrell. The only time all night Harrison was in any difficulty preceded to retire the next 11 batters before he issued a two out walk in the top of the seventh. The game ended on a ground out to second.
No Gryphon had more than a single off Williamson as Josh Pittman, Will Hedgepeth, Logan Pearce RBI, Jake Philbeck, Zack Keeter and Forest Bell collected hits. Up next for Rocky Mount is a Thursday afternoon game against Non conference foe Eastern Wayne and a Friday night trip to Fike which will be a battle for first place.
Other Big East action Northern Nash beat Southern Nash 8-2. The Knights are now 4-3 while Southern Nash drops their fifth conference game in a row to fall to 2-5 and in last place.
Nash Central beat Fike 12-7 and that once again throws the Big East in a quagmire as there are four teams tied at 4-3 as Fike drops to 4-3 while Nash Central rises to 4-3
There are three games to go in conference play and if there is one of the four that can win all three they will win the regular season title. Can that possibly happen concidering That of the four teams tied at the top Fike plays two teams they are tied with Rocky Mount and Northern and a third game against arch rival Hunt.
Rocky Mount plays Fike and Northern and a game with Southern. Northern Nash has Nash Central, Fike and Rocky Mount. Nash Central still has Northern, Fike and Southern. Anybody can still win it even Southern Nash is not out yet.
