Big Tilt Tonight

Gary Dornberg the long time Colorman on NC State sports ask Jim Valvano many years ago during a pregame interview he said to Valvano something like this.  Coach tonight is a big game.  Valvano response was the more you win the bigger the next game.

The Big East baseball season is 30 percent complete.  Hunt, Southern Nash and Rocky Mount are the three teams with winning records and right now the best chances to make the playoffs.

The Big game tonight is Southern Nash 2-1 9-3 @ Rocky Mount 2-1 6-3.  For one a loss will drop them back to the pack while the winner will be no worse than second.  Southern has scored 17 runs in the three conference tilts while Rocky Mount 9 runs.  Up up until Tuesday night The Firebird pitching had been solid.  Rocky Mount is struggling to score.  Will Southern pitching return or will Rocky Mount find a way to score.

Hunt has a full length lead but they played a non conference game Wednesday.  Their defense has been so so but their hitting they sure have pounded the ball.  Nash Central 1-2 travels to Hunt 3-0.  Nash Central is averaging the second most runs during conference play.  Can they out score Hunt to get back into the playoff picture.

Fike 1-2  @ Northern Nash 0-3:  Fike has scored 10 runs while giving up 11.  It is easy to see the Knight's biggest issue. Scoring runs only four in three game.  They need the bats to come alive. Pitching has been decent.  Fike needs a win to stay in contention while Northern wants to be in contention.
