Brawl Dooms Cherryville
Officials of the Southeast Regional for for the American Legion baseball playoffs got some help in catching up on games missed to excessive rain in Sumter South Carolina this weekend. Cherryville North Carolina and the Georgia State champion were playing game two Sunday morning which was a elimination game for the loser and Cherryville had a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third and all heck broke loose.
Cherryville scored on a play at the plate to make it 4-0 and as the Cherryville runners was heading to the dugout the Georgia catcher threw the ball and hit the runner in the back. The runner in turn charged the catcher and both dugouts cleared.
Once order was restored both teams were ruled to have to forfeit the game due to both dugouts getting involved with the fight. The state champion of South Carolina beat Florida in the winners bracket game and with both Cherryville and Georgia sent home that leaves the host team Sumter South Carolina to play Florida late Sunday and Florida was the winner of that game12-2 in eight innings. This leaves Florida has to beat South Carolina twice Monday or South Carolina wins a trip to the Legion World Series in Shelby NC.
Tonight at 6.00pm is the annual parents meeting at Rocky Mount High School Auditorium. If your child takes part in any extra curricula activity at RMHS a parent or guardian is suppose to be in attendance as required by the NCHSAA. I've been to the last three and I don't think there is much difference in any of the three. All the information is about the same each year.
